Retina

The inner lining of the posterior segment of the eyeball; consists of a layer of light-sensitive cells that convert images from the optical system into electric impulses sent along the optic nerve for transmission to the brain. More About Reconstructive Surgery.

Red Eye

Appearance of redness on the surface of the eye caused by large, dilated blood vessels. There are several possible causes of red eye, including allergies, infections, dry eye syndrome and injuries. If eye redness lasts longer than a couple of days, it is important for an eye doctor to determine the underlying cause. Treatment of red eye depends on the cause.

Restasis

A medication to treat Chronic Dry Eye.

Restor

ReSTOR® IOL has been uniquely designed to provide enhanced image quality and a full range of vision – up close, far away and everything in-between – giving cataract patients the best opportunity to live life free of glasses.

Rezoom

The ReZoom® Multifocal Lens procedure is an advanced treatment for cataracts that helps most people see near, far and everything in between without depending on glasses all the time.

Retinopathy

Any disease of the retina, the light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eye. The type of retinopathy is often specified. Arteriosclerotic retinopathy is retinal disease due to arteriosclerosis ("hardening of the arteries"). Diabetic retinopathy is retinal disease associated with diabetes. Hypertensive retinopathy is retinal disease due to high blood pressure.

Retinal Detachment

Condition wherein retina breaks away from the choroid membrane , causing it to lose nourishment and resulting in loss of vision unless successfully surgically repaired.

Refraction

1. In Physics, the bending of a light ray as it passes through the substances of different densities.

2. In eye care, the process of measuring a patient’s refractive error and the clinical judgment to determine the optical correction needed.

Refractive Surgery

A type of corneal surgery that modifies the shape of the cornea to correct some types of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
